How to Use Synology Photo Station 6 to Organize and Share Your Photos and Videos
Synology Photo Station 6 is an online photo album that lets you easily upload, organize, edit, and share your photos and videos over the Internet. You can access Photo Station 6 from your web browser, mobile devices, or TV. In this article, we will show you how to use some of the features of Photo Station 6 to manage your photos and videos.
Upload Photos and Videos
There are several ways to upload your photos and videos to Photo Station 6. You can use Photo Station Uploader, Photo Uploader, Photo Station web portal, file sharing protocols, or File Station. Here are some of the advantages and limitations of each method:
Photo Station Uploader: This is a desktop application that you can install on your Windows or Mac computer. It allows you to upload files with the file explorer by right-clicking the files and folders. It also compresses videos to different qualities and generates thumbnails for faster playback and browsing. This is the most convenient and recommended method.
Photo Uploader: This is a function of Synology Assistant, another desktop application that you can install on your Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. It also compresses videos to H.264 format and generates thumbnails before uploading. However, it does not support drag-and-drop uploading or right-clicking files and folders.
Photo Station web portal: This is the web interface that you can access from your web browser. You can create albums and upload files by clicking the Add button. You can also drag-and-drop files if your browser supports it. However, the maximum upload size per file is 32 GB for 64-bit models running on DSM 6.0 or above, or 2 GB for other models.
File sharing protocols: You can use file sharing protocols such as SMB, AFP, FTP, or WebDAV to upload files from your computer to your Synology NAS. You need to put the files in a folder that will become your new album in the photo shared folder (for the default Photo Station) or home/photo folder (for Personal Photo Station). However, this method does not compress videos or generate thumbnails.
File Station: This is another web interface that you can access from your web browser. You can upload files by clicking the Upload button or drag-and-drop files if your browser supports it. You need to put the files in the same folders as mentioned above. However, this method also does not compress videos or generate thumbnails.
